How to Use the Mini-Lesson Template

  1. Write the Teaching Point

State one skill or strategy in a sentence students could repeat, then add the unit, session and date.

  2. Choose Your Materials

List the mentor text you will use and write what you will add to the anchor chart.

  3. Plan the Four Parts

Give the connection, teaching, active engagement and link a time each so the minilesson stays short.

  4. Plan Workshop Time

Note who you will confer with and which small groups you will pull while students work on their own.

  5. Plan the Middle and the Share

Write a mid-workshop teaching point and how students will share what they tried at the end.
