What's in the Number Bond Template

Six Blank Bonds

Three rows of two, each with a whole circle on top and two part circles below.

A Number Sentence for Each

A Number Sentence field under every bond for writing it as an equation.

You Choose the Numbers

The circles are empty, so you set the range: to 5, to 10, to 20 or beyond.

Word, Google Docs and PDF

PDF, Word or Google Docs, US Letter or A4. Numbers go in the bonds by hand.

How to Use the Number Bond Template

  1. Set the Range

Tell students which numbers to use, such as wholes up to 10, and write the range on the board.

  2. Give a Whole and a Part

Say or write a whole and one part, and have students find the missing part for each bond.

  3. Check With Counters

Students check a bond with counters, moving them between the two parts to see the whole stay the same.

  4. Write the Number Sentence

Under each bond, students write a number sentence that matches it, such as 6 + 4 = 10.

  5. Read It Back

Students read each bond aloud, then explain how its number sentence uses the same three numbers.
