How to Set Up a Calm Down Corner
Print and Cut the Cards
Print page 1 on card stock, cut the cards apart and punch a hole in each corner.
Put the Cards on a Ring
Thread the cards on a ring and keep them in the corner where children can reach them.
Post the Feelings Chart
Hang page 2 at child height, and teach children to point to the face and then to a number from 1 to 5.
Practice When Calm
Try each card with the whole class before anyone needs it, so the steps are familiar.
Use the Check-In Afterward
Offer page 3 once a child feels calm, and talk about what happened and what to try next time.
