Teach across sections

In this article

Teach the same lesson to multiple sections without duplicating your work. Create a lesson once and assign it to every section — updates sync everywhere automatically.

Why this matters

If you teach the same course to multiple sections — say, Biology 101 to three different periods — you don't want to create the same lesson three times. In EMStudio, you create a lesson once and assign it to all three classes. Update the lesson for one section, and every other section sees the change instantly.

Example

You teach English to Period 1, Period 3, and Period 5. You build a lesson called "Introduction to Shakespeare." Instead of making three copies, you link that single lesson to all three classes. Monday night you revise the lesson plan — Tuesday morning, all three sections have the updated version.

Assign a lesson to multiple classes

When creating or editing a lesson, you can assign it to more than one class:

  • From the Lessons page — drag a lesson onto another class in the left panel.
  • From the lesson editor — open the Details tab in the right panel and add additional classes.

What's shared vs what's separate

Standards linked to the lessonStudent roster

The lesson itself is one thing. When and where it's taught, and how students perform — that's tracked per class.

Students can belong to multiple classes. A student in both your Period 1 and Period 3 Biology classes will have separate grades and attendance records for each.
