Create a class
In this article
Classes are how you organize everything in EMStudio — each class has its own students, lessons, grades, and attendance. Create one in seconds and start building your teaching workflow.
The My Classes page
Click My Classes in the sidebar. This is your home base for managing all your classes. The right panel shows an Overview with totals — total classes, students, lessons, and assignments.
Create a new class
- Click
+ New Classin the top right. - Enter a class name.
- Add a description.
- Pick a class color.
- Click
Create.
Add a description
The description field is flexible — use it for subject, grade level, section number, or anything you want to see on the class card.
Set a class color
Your class color flows through everything connected to that class:
- Timetable — schedule slots
- Planner — calendar entries
- Lessons, students & grades — all tagged with the class color
- Dashboard — today's schedule
Choose distinct colors for each class. You'll rely on color more than you think when scanning your schedule. Need to change the name, color, or description later? See Class settings & details →
View your classes
The My Classes page supports two layouts:
- Grid view — class cards with color headers, student/lesson/assignment counts, and a completion percentage badge.
- List view — a compact table format.
Use Search to find a class by name, and Sort to reorder by name or other criteria.
Click into any class to open the class page — your hub for that class's lessons, students, and grades. Next, add students to your class to build your roster. If you teach the same course to multiple periods, see Teach across sections →
