Create custom standards
In this article
Create your own standards when the built-in sets don't cover your needs — for school-specific goals, IB criteria, or any custom learning objectives you want to track.
When to create custom standards
EMStudio includes thousands of built-in standard sets, but they may not cover every situation. Create your own if:
- Your school or district uses a custom curriculum not in the library.
- A standard set is slightly outdated or doesn't match your version.
- You want to track internal learning goals alongside official standards.
Create a custom standard set
The custom standard creator lives in the same dialog as the standards browser.
- Click
+ Add Standardsfrom the Standards page. - Select the option to create a custom set.
- Enter a name, subject, and grade level for the set.
- Save the set.
Add individual standards
Once your set is created, add the individual standards inside it:
- Open the custom set.
- Add a standard with a code (e.g., "CS.1.1") and a description (e.g., "Students can identify the main idea of a text").
- Repeat for each standard in the set.
Custom standards work exactly like built-in ones — link the set to a class from the class page, mark standards as covered in the lesson editor, and track coverage on the Standards page.
