Add standard sets
In this article
Import official standard sets — like Common Core, NGSS, or your state's standards — directly into EMStudio. Once added, you can link them to lessons and track your curriculum coverage.
What are standards?
Educational standards are learning goals that define what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. They're published by governments, education boards, and organizations — examples include Common Core (US), NGSS (US Science), the National Curriculum (UK), and thousands of regional frameworks worldwide.
In EMStudio, you link these standards to your classes, then mark which ones you've covered in your lessons. Over time, you build a clear picture of your curriculum coverage — what you've taught and what's still left.
The Standards page
Click Standards in the sidebar. Like other pages, it uses the three-panel layout:
- Left panel — class selector. Pick a class to see its linked standard sets.
- Middle panel — the standards list. Shows each linked set with its individual standards and coverage status.
- Right panel — class summary with total standard sets, total standards, and coverage percentage.
Search & add a standard set
- Select a class from the left panel.
- Click
+ Add Standardsin the top right. - The standards browser opens with thousands of standard sets. Use the filters to narrow down:
- Country — filter by nation.
- Region — filter by state, province, or territory.
- Subject — filter by subject area (Math, ELA, Science, etc.).
- Grade — filter by grade level.
- Browse the results and select a standard set.
- It's linked to your selected class.
Track coverage over time
Once a standard set is linked to a class, each individual standard shows as either covered or uncovered. Standards are marked as covered when you link them to a lesson in the lesson editor. See Link standards to lessons →
The coverage percentage updates automatically — both on the Standards page and in the class summary panel.
Check your coverage mid-semester to make sure you're on track. If key standards are still uncovered, you know where to focus your remaining lessons. Can't find the right set? Create your own custom standards →
