Student profiles

In this article

Every student has a profile page that brings together their grades, attendance history, and notes in one view. Use it to quickly understand how a student is doing across all their classes.

Open a student profile

  1. Click any student in the student list.
  2. Click View Profile in the right panel.

The profile page has two sections: a Portfolio with three tabs on the right, and Contact Info on the left.

Contact info

The left panel shows the student's contact details and classes:

  • Classes — which classes this student belongs to, color-coded.
  • Student Email
  • Parent Email
  • Phone Number

Click Edit to update any of these. At the bottom, you'll find quick action buttons to email, call, or open a Chat.

The Portfolio — Overview tab

The Overview is the landing tab when you open a profile. It shows a complete snapshot of the student's performance:

  • Overall Grade — weighted average across all assignments.
  • Attendance — percentage and days count (e.g., 32 of 38 days).
  • Missing — number of missing assignments.
  • Grade Trends — a line chart showing grades by category (Assignments, Homework, Group Work, Projects, Tests) over time. Toggle between Day, Week, and Month.
  • Category Strengths — a radar chart showing the student's relative strengths across grade categories.
  • Weekly Attendance — a stacked bar chart showing Present, Late, Excused, and Absent by week.
  • Attendance summary — a donut chart with the full breakdown.

The Portfolio — Assignments tab

Click Assignments in the Portfolio sidebar to see every assignment for this student. Each entry shows:

  • Assignment name
  • Grade category (color-coded)
  • Date
  • Score (raw points and percentage)

Use Search, Filter, and Sort at the top to find specific assignments. You can also click + Add Assignment to create one directly from the profile.

The Portfolio — Notes tab

Click Notes in the Portfolio sidebar to view and add notes. See Add student notes →

Tags & status

Tags let you label students for quick filtering across the app. You can create as many custom tags as you need.

Create a custom tag:

  1. Open a student's profile or the Create Student dialog.
  2. Click the Tags field.
  3. Type a tag name (e.g., "Group A", "ELL", "Advanced", "Needs Support").
  4. Choose a color for the tag.

Tags you create are reusable — once a tag exists, you can assign it to any student.

Filter students by tag: On the Students page and the Attendance page, use the filter button at the top to filter the list by one or more tags. This is useful for quickly viewing a specific group, like all your ELL students or all students in a reading group.

Pair tags with attendance or grade filters for powerful views — for example, "show me all ELL students who were absent this week."

Status shows whether a student is Active or Away. Away students remain in your roster but can be filtered out of day-to-day views.
