What is a math worksheet generator?

A math worksheet generator builds a sheet of practice problems for you, so you never write them by hand. This math worksheet maker mixes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in one set, picks the numbers at random from the ranges you choose, and sets the problems out in neat rows. Subtraction never goes negative and division always comes out even. It draws an answer key in red too. Pick a mix, set the numbers, and download the PDF. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.

When do you use a mixed math worksheet?

Whenever students should practice more than one skill and read the sign before they solve. Three moments where a fresh sheet beats a premade one:

A teacher at a desk setting up a math sheet on a laptop with a stack of printed warm-up worksheets beside it

Daily warm-ups and review

Print a new sheet each morning for the first five minutes of class. Because the signs are mixed, students have to read each problem instead of repeating the last one, and every sheet has different numbers.

Homework and fact fluency

Set the numbers to the facts your class is working on, such as sums to 20 and times tables to 10, and send home a sheet that matches. The answer key lets you or a parent check it in a minute.

A substitute teacher's folder on a desk with printed math sheets and an answer key clipped to the top

Sub plans and early finishers

Keep a few sheets in the folder for the student who finishes first, or leave one in the substitute plans. Each sheet comes with a key, so whoever covers the room can mark it without doing the math.

Core features of
a math worksheet generator

A good worksheet tool lets you set the skills and the numbers, then gives you a clean sheet. Here is what this one does, from the first setting to the printed page.

Choose which operations to mix

The Operations menu has four choices: All Four, Add & Subtract, Multiply & Divide, and No Division. Each problem on the sheet gets its own sign, so a single page can hold all the skills you picked.

  • All Four, or any pair of skills
  • No Division for grades not there yet
  • A sign drawn on every problem

Set the number ranges

Adding and subtracting use numbers from a range you set, anywhere from 0 to 9999. Multiplying and dividing use facts from a second range, from 0 to 100. A hint under each range says what it covers.

  • Add and subtract from 0 up to 9999
  • Times tables from 0 up to 100
  • Steppers for the low and high number
You set the number ranges

Pick the number of problems

Choose from 1 to 100 problems, 20 by default. Set the format to vertical or horizontal, the problems per row, and the text size. Fill the Page adds just enough problems to use the whole last page.

  • 1 to 100 problems per sheet
  • Vertical or horizontal format
  • Fill the Page tops up the last page

Switch between the Worksheet and the Answer Key. The key shows the same problems with every answer written in red. Press New Problems for a different set with the same settings.

  • Every answer in red
  • New Problems gives fresh numbers
  • The key always matches the sheet

Download the PDF or print it

The Worksheet and Answer Key download buttons give you two PDFs. Print sends the sheet to the printer. Choose US Letter or A4, edit the title and directions, and switch off the Name and Date row or the problem numbers.

More than a worksheet template

A premade sheet has fixed numbers and one answer key. This one builds new problems from your ranges, checks that the answers are whole numbers, and gives you the key. It runs in any browser, including a locked-down school laptop.

No negative answers

In every subtraction problem the bigger number goes on top, so a student never meets an answer below zero by accident.

No negative answers

Division that comes out even

Each division problem is built from a times-table fact, so it divides evenly and never divides by zero. No remainders to explain.

A title, directions, and Name and Date

The title follows your mix, such as "Addition and Subtraction". Edit it and the directions on the page. The Name and Date row switches off in one click.

Who is the math worksheet generator for?

Anyone who needs practice sheets at the right level and does not want to write the problems. If a premade sheet never matches what your students are on, it is for you.

Classroom teachers

Warm-ups, homework, and review for any grade. Set the numbers for your class, print a copy for every student, and keep the answer key for yourself.

A parent and a child at a kitchen table with a laptop and a printed math sheet being solved with a pencil

Tutors and homeschool parents

Make a sheet for the exact skill a child is working on and print it at the kitchen table. Use small numbers for a beginner and larger ones for an older child.

A teacher sitting beside a student at a small table with a large-print math sheet and a pencil

Special education and intervention teachers

Narrow the ranges, use a large text size, and print only a few problems per row. Build the sheet around the facts a student still needs.

How EMStudio's math worksheet generator is different

Many math worksheet generators bury the download behind a sign-up, add a logo to the page, or give you no answer key. This one is built by the team behind a full teacher planner, and it treats a worksheet as part of your lesson.

Free, with nothing held back

The full PDF, the answer key, both paper sizes, and printing, all without an account or a daily limit. The only mark on the page is a small "Made with EMStudio" footer line.

An answer key every time

Every sheet comes with its own key, with each answer in red. You never have to work the problems yourself to be sure the page is right.

A worksheet is one small part of a lesson. When you are ready, EMStudio's lesson planner holds the rest: every class's lessons on a weekly calendar, beside your students, grades, and attendance.
