Add status notes

In this article

Attach a note to any attendance entry to record context — why a student was absent, a parent's call, or a pattern you've noticed. Notes stay linked to that student and date for future reference.

What are status notes?

Status notes let you add context to a specific attendance entry — why a student was absent, a reason for being late, or anything else worth recording. The note is attached to that student on that specific date.

Add a note

There are two ways:

From the month or filtered view:

  1. Right-click any status cell in the attendance grid.
  2. Select Add Note.
  3. Type your note and save.

From the day view:

  1. Click the pencil icon next to a student's status.
  2. Type your note and save.

Spot notes on the grid

When a status has a note, a purple dot appears in the top right corner of that cell. Hover over it to read the note without opening anything.

When to use notes

  • Absent reasons — "Family emergency" or "Doctor appointment"
  • Late context — "Bus was late, arrived at 9:15"
  • Parent communication — "Spoke with parent, aware of absences"
  • Follow-ups — "Third absence this month — check the patterns report for trends"

For broader observations beyond attendance, use student notes on the profile. See the student profile for full context including grades, attendance, and contact info.
