What is a sight word worksheet generator?
A sight word worksheet generator turns a list of words into practice pages. Each word gets its own framed block with five parts: read it, spell it in letter boxes, trace it, write it on guide lines, and find it hidden among look-alike words. Use your own list or one of the five Dolch lists. The answer key fills in the letters and circles the hidden words. Download the PDF. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.

When do you use a sight word worksheet?
Whenever early readers need the same few words again and again. Three moments where a custom worksheet beats a premade one:

This week's word list
Type the words you introduced on Monday and print a worksheet for exactly those. Each child reads, spells, traces, writes, and finds every word, so the same word is seen five ways before you move on to the next group.

Literacy centers and homework
Print one word per page for a take-home sheet with room to write, or two per page for a station. Pick a Dolch list and every word on it is ready to print, with no typing at all.

Extra practice for one reader
For a student who still stumbles on a handful of words, type only those and print one word per page. The large letter boxes and double writing rows give small hands space, and the key lets you check the page quickly.
Core features of
a sight word worksheet generator
A good sight word worksheet maker takes your list and gets a clean page out the other end. Here is what this one does, from the first word to the printed sheet.
Type or paste your sight words
Put one word on each line, or separate them with commas. Add up to 100 words. Repeated words are used once, and a note under the box counts your words and tells you if a character cannot be traced yet.
- One word per line, or commas between
- Up to 100 words, repeats used once
- Paste a list from a document or email
Or pick a Dolch list
The Word list menu holds My Words and five Dolch lists: Pre-Primer, Primer, First Grade, Second Grade, and Third Grade. That is 220 words in all. Pick one and the sheet is ready, titled with the list name.
- Five Dolch lists, 220 words in all
- Word counts shown in the menu
- Title names the list for you
Five activities for every word
Each word gets a framed block: Read it, with letter boxes beside it for Spell it, then Trace it, Write it, and Find it. Choose one or two words per page, and every part grows to fill its block.
- Read, spell, trace, write, and find
- One or two words per page
- Block sizes fill the page
An answer key for every sheet
Switch between the Worksheet and the Answer Key. The key writes the letters in the Spell it boxes and circles each hidden word in red. Press Mix Up Find It for a different set of look-alikes.
- Letters filled in, hidden words circled
- Mix Up Find It reshuffles the rows
- Key always matches the sheet you see
Download the PDF or print it
The Worksheet and Answer Key download buttons give you two PDFs. Print sends the pages to the printer. Choose US Letter or A4, and switch the Name and Date row off if you want.
- Two PDFs: the worksheet and the key
- US Letter or A4 paper
- Name and Date row you can switch off
How to make
a sight word worksheet
Five steps from a blank page to a printed worksheet, and typing the words is the longest part.
Type your words or pick a list
Leave Word list on My Words and type one word per line, or choose a Dolch list. The note under the box shows how many words the worksheet will have.
Choose words per page
Press 1 or 2 under Words per page. One word per page gives two rows each for tracing and writing. Two words per page fits more words on fewer sheets.
Add a title and directions
The title reads "Sight Words" until you type your own, and the directions tell students what to do in each part. Change either one, or leave them as they are.
Press Mix Up Find It if you want another
Press Mix Up Find It to hide each word among different look-alikes. Switch to Answer Key to see the letters filled in and the hidden words circled in red.
Download or print
Choose US Letter or A4, then download the Worksheet for the students and the Answer Key for yourself. Or press Print to send the pages to the printer.
That's the whole worksheet
Type the words once and print as many copies as you need. The generator is at the top of this page.

Get Started for FreeMore than a sight word template
A premade sight word sheet uses someone else's list. This one builds a block for every word you choose, with a key, and runs in any browser, including a locked-down school laptop.
Hidden among look-alikes
In Find it, each word appears two or three times among words that start the same and are about as long, never side by side.
Dotted tracing, then blank lines
Trace it prints dotted copies of the word on guide lines. Write it gives empty rows with the same top, dashed middle, and base lines.
A box for every letter
Spell it draws one box per letter. Apostrophes in words like don't are printed, and the key fills in the rest.
US Letter or A4
Pick the paper you print on and the page is laid out for it. The worksheet and the answer key are two separate PDFs.
Your settings are remembered
Your words and settings stay in this browser, so you can close the tab and pick the same worksheet up later. Nothing is uploaded.
Free, and no watermark
No account, no sign-up, and no logo across the page. The only mark is a small "Made with EMStudio" line in the footer.
Who is the sight word worksheet generator for?
Anyone who teaches early readers a specific list of words. If a premade sheet never quite matches your list, it is for you.

Classroom teachers
Weekly word groups, Dolch lists, and review for the whole class. Type the words, print a copy for every student, and keep the answer key to check pages quickly.

Tutors and homeschool parents
Make a worksheet for the words your child is learning this week and print it at the kitchen table. One word per page gives a beginning reader plenty of room to trace and write.

Reading specialists and ESL teachers
Build a worksheet from the exact words a small group needs. Reading, spelling, tracing, writing, and finding the same word gives learners several chances to notice how it looks.
How EMStudio's sight word worksheet generator is different
Many sight word worksheet generators bury the download behind a sign-up, add a logo to the page, or only trace a word. This one is built by the team behind a full teacher planner, and it treats a worksheet as part of your lesson.

Free, with nothing held back
The full PDF, the answer key, both paper sizes, and printing, all without an account or a daily limit. The only mark on the page is a small "Made with EMStudio" footer line.

Five activities in every block
Each word is read, spelled, traced, written, and found on one framed block, so you print one sheet instead of five. Long lists continue onto extra pages.

Part of a full teacher planner
A worksheet is one small part of a lesson. When you are ready, EMStudio's lesson planner holds the rest: every class's lessons on a weekly calendar, beside your students, grades, and attendance.
